Editorial Policy
Yum Tonight exists to give accurate, useful answers to everyday kitchen questions. This page explains how we create and maintain our content.
How we research
For food-safety topics – storage times, cooling, reheating and spoilage – we rely on official and authoritative sources, including the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), FoodSafety.gov and the FoodKeeper app, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and national food standards agencies such as Food Standards Scotland and the UK Food Standards Agency. Where official guidance differs between countries, we explain both.
How we write
- The answer comes first, in plain language.
- We separate safety (will it make you sick?) from quality (will it taste good?).
- We include practical steps, common mistakes and how to fix them.
- Every guide lists its sources at the end.
Updates and corrections
We review our guides regularly and update them when guidance changes. Each article shows its publish date and last review date. If you find an error, please contact us and we'll review it promptly.
Use of AI tools
We may use AI tools to help with research, outlines and illustrations. Every article is reviewed, fact-checked against the sources listed and edited by a person before it's published. Illustrations on this site are created for Yum Tonight.
