Best digital nomad visas for Pakistani freelancers
UAE remote work visa
The UAE’s one-year remote work visa lets you live in Dubai while working for clients or an employer outside the UAE, with no local sponsor. Dubai’s immigration authority (GDRFA) asks for proof of at least $3,500 a month in income. Many Pakistani freelancers are paid through Payoneer or Wise, so show the full trail: client invoices, platform payouts, Payoneer or Wise statements, and withdrawals to your Pakistani bank. Three to six months of tidy records is the minimum. If you plan to work for UAE-based clients, you need a freelance permit or a business licence instead.
Thailand DTV
The Destination Thailand Visa has no monthly income test. It needs 500,000 THB in savings, held for around three months, plus proof of remote work, and a 10,000 THB fee. You apply online. Statements from your home bank are generally accepted, which helps because moving large savings out of Pakistan isn’t simple. The visa is valid for five years, with stays of up to 180 days per entry.
Malaysia DE Rantau
Malaysia’s nomad pass needs about $24,000 a year for digital professionals, costs around $270 and lasts 12 months, renewable. It suits Pakistani developers, designers and digital marketers. Your role must fit Malaysia’s approved digital categories.
Sri Lanka DNV
Sri Lanka’s new visa needs $2,000 a month sent to Sri Lanka in foreign currency, plus a $500 fee per year. It’s close to home, and living costs are moderate. Details are in our Sri Lanka digital nomad visa guide.
Spain
Spain is the most affordable major EU option at €2,849 a month in 2026. Applicants usually need a university degree or about three years of professional experience. Remote employees need an employer that has existed for at least a year. Apply through the Spanish consulate’s visa centre in Pakistan.
Which nomad visas are not open to Pakistanis?
- Japan: its six-month nomad visa is limited to an approved list of countries, and Pakistan isn’t on it.
- Philippines: it only accepts citizens of countries that offer Filipinos a similar visa.
- Georgia: Georgia’s 365-day visa-free stay doesn’t apply to Pakistani passports.
Documents Pakistani applicants usually need
- Passport valid for at least six months beyond your stay.
- Police character certificate: NADRA issues one online with your CNIC (about PKR 500 standard or PKR 2,500 urgent). Some embassies instead want the certificate from your provincial police (Punjab, Sindh, KP or Islamabad).
- Apostille or MOFA attestation: Pakistan joined the Apostille Convention in 2023, so the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can apostille documents for member countries such as Spain and Portugal. Non-member countries need MOFA attestation plus attestation by their embassy.
- Degree attestation (HEC) if the visa asks for a degree, for example Spain.
- Income proof: contracts, invoices, Upwork or Fiverr earnings reports, and Payoneer, Wise and bank statements.
- Tax records: FBR returns, active taxpayer (ATL) status and, for IT freelancers, your PSEB registration certificate.
- Health insurance valid in the destination. Compare options in our SafetyWing vs Genki guide.
How to show freelance income from Pakistan
Consulates want proof of stable income above the threshold every month, not just one good month. Keep a clean trail from client to bank:
- Invoice the client or record the platform payout.
- Show the money arriving in Payoneer, Wise or another account.
- Show the withdrawal into your Pakistani bank account.
Registered IT exporters benefit too. Pakistan’s reduced 0.25% final tax on IT export income for PSEB-registered freelancers was extended to June 30, 2029. It requires remitting export income through banking channels, which also produces exactly the records consulates want to see. For more on receiving foreign payments, see our guide to accounts for getting paid by foreign clients.
Moving money abroad: Pakistan has strict rules on sending personal savings overseas. Speak to your bank before planning large transfers. Where a visa accepts home-bank statements (as Thailand’s DTV generally does), you may not need to move the money at all.
